GfS Covers

The GfS Exit Cover is placed over the emergency exit handle to create a deterrent. Since the cover must be deliberately broken to access the handle, accidental activation is prevented. In case of emergency, this can be done easily and without injury. The Exit Cover is made of sturdy, non-fragile Macrolon that does not shatter. It features a safety lock, a predetermined breaking point, and red-green marking. When used or broken, the predetermined breaking points of the red top plates break, and the door handle can be operated. The red-green marking also allows to see from a distance whether the cover is still locked. To re-secure the door handle or to attach the cover, only new red top plates are needed.

Combining it with the battery-operated cover guard allows for an additional acoustic alarm at the site or, if a signal cable is laid, the forwarding of the alarm to a central station.

The cover can also be combined with a lock. This allows the cover to be removed without destroying the red top plates. When using the cover opener, a simple lock is hung in a U-lock. Alternatively, the cover can be combined with a box lock. The profile half-cylinder contained therein can be integrated into a locking system. This is advisable when the door system must often be accessed by authorized persons (e.g., for day opening or supplier traffic).

GfS Hood Guard

The battery-operated GfS Hood Guard is wireless and easy to install as a ready-to-use complete device. It is mounted on the upper or lower mounting tab of the GfS Exit Cover. The included magnetic foil is glued into the mounting tab of the hood. This magnetic foil activates a Reed-Contact in the Hood Guard. The device can now be switched on and made operational via the built-in key switch.

When the hood is knocked off, the Reed-Contact is released and an acoustic alarm sounds (95 dB/1 m). The alarm can only be acknowledged or turned off by an authorized person with the key. With the help of an additional potential-free changeover switch with external power supply terminal and by wiring the device, the alarm can, for example, be forwarded to a display panel at the gatekeeper/security personnel.

THE LEGAL PERMISSIBILITY OF THE EMERGENCY EXIT COVER

The Exit Cover has been tested by TÜV Thüringen Anlagentechnik GmbH. It meets the necessary conditions in terms of energy and force expenditure and allows for injury-free breaking through the use of the material Macrolon. The ARGE-Bau (Working Group of Ministers Responsible for Construction of the States) confirms in a letter the harmlessness of the covers in escape routes.

With the removal of DIN EN 179 and 1125 from the Construction Rules List Part B of the DIBt, it is possible to use products that do not comply with these standards, provided that one-handed operation is not required by state law. If one-handed operation is required by state law, the Covers can be approved through individual permits by the building authority.
