Frequently Asked Questions/FAQ

Which mounting plate do I need?

This depends on the door on site, for steel or solid doors the GfS Door Guard can be screwed directly onto the door leaf. For Door Retainer doors, you need an adhesive mounting plate (Art.-Nr.: 901670). Angle mounting plates are used for glass frame doors. Here, a distinction is made between the "short" and the "long" mounting plate. The "short" (Art.-Nr.: 991470) for GfS EH Door Guard and (Art.-Nr.: 901470) for GfS Exit Control) is used for fittings where the distance from the bottom edge of the handle to the bottom edge of the fitting (e.g., short plate or round rosette) is no more than 130 mm. For fittings where this distance exceeds 130 mm, the "long" mounting plate is used (Art.-Nr.: 991770 for GfS EH Door Guard and (Art.-Nr.: 901770) for GfS Exit Control) .

Can the Door Guard also be glued?

Yes, with the help of the mounting plate for Door Retainer doors (Art.-Nr.: 901670).

Do the Door Guards have approval?

Since the GfS Door Guards do not access the locking of doors and windows, but only secure them, Door Guards are only used as barriers to prevent misuse. There are no testing guidelines for barriers, and therefore no approval.
The GfS One-Hand Door Guards are certified according to DIN EN 179 and DIN EN 1125, because a one-hand operation to open the door is sufficient.

How do I remove the cover?

For the GfS One-Hand Door Guard: turn the key counterclockwise to the resistance to the left and forcefully beyond it.
For the Swivel Door Guard: remove the two screws on the left and right and pull off the cover.

Can the Door Guard also be used outdoors?

Yes, there is an optional retrofit against splash water (Art.-Nr.: 800300).

Is a key included and is it available as a replacement?

Two keys are included in the scope of delivery. Generally, these are also available as replacements, although this depends on the age of the lock.

Several Door Guards are to be installed, can they be keyed alike?

No problem, just specify this when placing the order.

We have our own locking system, can I still use the GfS Door Guard?

Replacing with a site-provided cylinder (30/10) is always possible without any problems. Longer cylinders require a retrofit of the Door Guard (Art.-Nr.: 940500)

What type of profile half-cylinder is installed in the GfS Door Guard?

This varies. The locks are regularly changed so that not the same lock is used everywhere.

Is the GfS One-Hand Door Guard available without a profile half-cylinder?

No, due to its design, the GfS One-Hand Door Guard is always delivered with a profile half-cylinder.

Is the GfS Door Guard available in other colors?

Yes. The Door Guard is available in additional RAL colors: RAL: 9001,  RAL: 9016, RAL: 9007

I need a wandering prevention device for the door, what can I use?

This depends on the specific application and cannot be answered universally. In general, we offer a wide range from electric door locks to Exit Covers. Most of our customers opt for a GfS Door Guard.

What is the second mounting plate from the mounting bracket of the GfS Door Guards for?

This is placed over the first and serves as tamper protection.

How can I change the battery?

For the GfS One-Hand Door Guard: turn the key counterclockwise to the resistance to the left and forcefully beyond it. Before removing the battery, first disconnect the battery connector. Replace the battery, reconnect the connector. Before replacing the cover, please remove the key. Then hang the cover on the lower rivet plates and press at the top until the cover audibly snaps into place at the upper rivet plate.

For the Swivel Door Guard: remove the two screws on the left and right and pull off the cover.

I have a window to secure, is there also a GfS Door Guard?

Yes, the GfS Exit Control Window, specifically for window handles or locking bars. (Art.-Nr.: 915100)

I heard that the GfS Exit Control is banned!?

No, that is not true. GfS Exit Control does not meet the requirements of DIN 179 and DIN 1125, which demand simple opening of emergency exits with "as few moves as possible." However, there is no legal requirement to implement the DIN standards.

Does the GfS Door Guard have a battery?

GfS Door Guards use a 9 V block battery.

When do I use the basic Door Guard and when the one with pre-alarm?

There is no general rule. In kindergartens, the GfS Exit Control 179/1125 basic is more likely to be used, while securing an emergency exit in retail, the GfS Exit Control 179/1125 with pre-alarm makes sense.

What is a pre-alarm?

When the door handle is lightly pressed on the red head of the GfS Exit Control 179/1125, an alarm sounds. When the door handle is released, the alarm stops. Only when the door handle is completely pressed down does a continuous alarm sound, which can only be silenced with the help of the key.

How can the GfS Door Guard be mounted on a T30 door?

With the help of the mounting plate for Door Retainer doors (Art.-Nr.: 901670) This can be glued directly to the Door Retainer door using the pre-mounted adhesive pad.

Can the alarm also be forwarded to a mobile phone (telephone alert system)?

Yes, you need the GfS Exit Control 179/1125 Radio (Art.-Nr.: 990040) and a radio receiver (Art.-Nr. 990043). This has a potential-free contact. Another option would be the GfS EHTürwächter with external power supply (Art.-Nr.: 990010). Here, too, a potential-free contact is available. The forwarding from the contact to the alert system is done on site.

I have a full glass door, is there also a solution for that?

Yes, the mounting plate for Door Retainer doors (Art.-Nr.: 901670). This allows the GfS Door Guard to be glued to the glass door.

Can the mounting bracket also be glued?

No, it can only be screwed on.
