ESCAPE AND RESCUE ROUTES ACCORDING TO DIN EN 1125
This standard is applied in public buildings where users are not familiar with the functions of the emergency exit and must operate it in an emergency without prior instruction.
This means that the door must be able to be opened by anyone without special knowledge in emergency situations. In these buildings, there is a possibility of a panic situation with high risk due to incorrect use of panic hardware (people behave irrationally). Especially in the event of a power failure (no light) or crowding, the panic function of door handles is no longer given.
Here, the opening function must be provided across the entire door width even if improperly operated or in a panic situation. In such a situation, people rush directly to the emergency exit and must be able to open it without instruction. The door systems used according to this DIN are referred to as panic doors, which must be secured with a panic bar across at least 60% of the door width. Here too, lock and fitting elements must be tested completely as a unit.
