GFS Electric Door Locks

The electric lock operates according to the fail-safe principle. The electric door locking system consists of a locking element (surface holding magnet, Emergency exit strikes, bolt lock, etc.), a control unit (e.g., GfS Door Terminal, GfS FWS 02), an actuating element (e.g., GfS e-Bar, GfS Door Terminal, emergency switch) and, according to prEN13637, an operating element (door handle, panic bar, etc.). When the actuating element is operated, the locking element is de-energized and unlocked.

The GfS Door Terminal (with integrated control, siren, flashing light, and emergency switch) should be mounted near the door or on the door leaf. The height of 1200 mm should not be exceeded during installation. The recommended optimal height is 850 mm, so that children and wheelchair users can also reach the switch.

The surface holding magnet is mounted on the door frame or in the passageway area, the counterplate on the door leaf. During installation, the clear passage height of 2 m must not be undercut. Surface holding magnets are easy to install and can also be retrofitted to existing doors (surface mounting). No modifications or cutouts need to be made to the door frames. This statement does not apply to the retrofitting of fire protection closures with smoke protection properties. According to a letter dated December 1, 2009, from the Institute for Building Technology (Berlin), electromagnets can only be retrofitted to fire protection closures with the manufacturer's consent. In these cases, the safety door closer with integrated electric locking element may be an option.

The emergency exit door is electrically locked, the red backlit emergency button for unlocking is alarm-secured.

In an emergency, press the red backlit emergency button. The LEDs flash green.
The electric lock is de-energized. The emergency exit door can be used. Simultaneously, an optical and an acoustic alarm (95 dB/1 m) are triggered. These can be reset with the device key.

Authorized persons do not use the handle but open the latch with the key to enter the door without triggering the alarm.

SURFACE-MOUNTED MAGNET SYSTEMS – THE PRINCIPLE

Surface-mounted magnets are easy to install (surface mounting) and can also be retrofitted to existing doors. No modifications or cut-outs need to be made to the door frames.

According to the letter dated March 24, 1991, from the Institute for Building Technology (Berlin), electromagnets may also be attached to fire doors. There is no noise development when opening or closing the doors. Internal monitoring contacts ensure comprehensive protection against tampering. The power consumption in the idle current principle is extremely low. The surface-mounted magnet and the fully movable counterplate make up the complete electromagnetic locking unit. Due to the adhesive force (approx. 400 Kp) of the magnet and counterplate, additional break-in protection is provided.

The surface-mounted magnet is installed on the door frame or in the passageway area, the counterplate on the door leaf mounted. In case of emergency, the emergency switch is activated to immediately release the door. The alarm sounds. The latter can only be deactivated by an authorized person, e.g., security personnel or a gatekeeper. If the surface-mounted magnet is connected to a fire alarm system, the activated smoke detectors automatically release the doors. The functional states are displayed with an LED via a Hall generator integrated in the magnet.
